Ad-Libs has been offering improv training since 1986. We offer a four level training program that works!!

Join a level on your own or bring a group of colleagues. This is a great program whether you want to just have fun and open up or pursue a career in comedy.

We also offer One Shot Classes every week. These classes makes a great gift for that creative person in your life.

Level One - Basic Improvisation (six-week course)

Levels II and III builds upon the foundation laid in the Level I. Students will learn a number of scene- and game-based improvisation exercises to build memorable characters, identify the focus of scenes and long-form improvisation.

At the end of the workshop, these students will perform a free public show on the Ad-Libs Main Stage, showcasing their strengthened improvisational skills. These shows are open to friends, family, and the general public.

Students can also attend any Ad-Libs performance for half-price while enrolled in the workshop.

Ad-Libs Improv Academy - 1 Day Workshop (six-week course)

Improv Games

Come learn and play a variety of fun improvisation-based games from one of the industry’s best and seasoned performers. Featuring warm-ups, exercises, and performance-quality games, this is an outstanding opportunity to “work on your short game,” exercise those comedy muscles, and have a great time in the process. Every session will feature different games.

Writing Through Improvisation I

This class will use a number of scene-and game-based improvisation exercises to help you identify the importance of strong openings, and quickly recognizing the focus of your scenes. Learn how much improvisation goes into the writing process and the tips and tools to make your scenes great!

Building Characters I

In this session, you will learn a number of improvisation-based exercises to begin the development of characters. These techniques will help in your scenes, written work, and improv games. Start building your character “storehouse” with the tips and tools demonstrated in class.

Spacework

Practice techniques and learn exercises to strengthen your spacework. Well-defined spacework can breathe additional life into improvised and scripted pieces, helping to create specific locations, environments, and any “prop” your scene needs!

Song/Music Improvisation I

Improvising songs and musical pieces is a sure-fire crowd pleaser. In this workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of rhyme-and music-based improvisation. You’ll see that improvising songs onstage is impressive looking, but not nearly as difficult as it appears.

Apply the basics of rhyme-and music-based games and exercises into fully improvised musical scenes and song styles. Whether you have a passion for the Broadway musical or the smoky piano bars of the jazz era, you’ll find something fun and of great value in this class.

Level I - Essentials of Improv (Six-Week Course)

This course teaches the foundation for good improvisation through games and exercises. It is an excellent way to build confidence and to learn to trust your first instincts.

January 23rd - February 27 (Saturdays: 1:30 - 3:30 pm)

Level II - Improv Masters Class (Six-Week Course)

This class builds upon the foundation laid in Improv 101. Students will learn a number of scene- and game-based exercises to build memorable characters, as well as the foundations of more advanced improv techniques.

March 27th - May 1st (Saturdays: 1:30 - 3:30 pm)

Student Performance Showcase: Saturday, May 8th at 5:30 pm

Level III - Improv PhD (Six-Week Course)

This class provides students the opportunity to explore advanced improvised scenes, building on the high energy of the ensemble cast to put forth something truly unique and impressive while receiving valuable performance and presentation coaching from Ad-Libs’ staff of experienced actors, directors, and comedians.
